What is more important to you when it comes to banking? Digital innovation (user friendly app, online banking etc), or more of a human touch – better branch interactions, more proactive communication from your bank about products you may want etc? I for one can’t wait for there to be absolutely no reason at all for me to ever visit a bank branch…Read More

      • Digital Innovation is essential. The quality of the App and usability is everything. I have not visited a standard bank branch in over two years. Everything, even opening a saving account or changing limits can be done on your phone. Human interaction is becoming less and less valuable.

I wish it was easier to find dairy alternatives. After recently discovering how cows make milk (i.e. get artificially inseminated and have their babies taken from them over and over – they actually grieve for their babies) – I am keen to decrease the amount of dairy my household consumes. I am on the hunt for tofu; soy yoghurt; dairy free cheese…Read More

Since I started driving I have owned a Nissan Sentra; a Toyota Yaris and Mazda 2. A year ago I bought a second hand Hyundai IX35, which I have had to name Gertrude for various reasons:
        – She feels so heavy! I have to convince her to get her fat butt and broad hips up hills
        – The reverse lights and park assist camera only work if you put her in…Read More

        • Maybe you should trade poor Gertrude in for a Nissan Qashqai ?
            • I would, but I’ve just paid Gertrude off so I’m trying to enjoy the lack of car payments for a while first! I love the Qashqai though… It was one of the ones I almost got – before choosing IX35 🙁

          • I find it hilarious when people in South Africa still get irritated with taxi drivers… Seriously? Have you been living under a rock? Taxis and taxi drivers are here to stay, so make some space, take a deep breath and move on (literally – you’ll be moving in less than 2 minutes – so breeeeeath).

            • Yeah! I also find it hilarious when people think they’re victims of crime…Seriously? Have you been living under a rock? Crime and criminals are here to stay, so make some space, take a deep breath and move on (literally – you’ll be moving in less than 2 minutes, unless you’re murdered, in which case its not gonna bother you much longer, so breeeeeath).
                • No… Crime is never a laughing matter 🙁
                    • South African’s should never be content with someone impeding on their rights. If you can make provisions for taxi drivers to do this, why would you not allow it for criminals?
                        • Taxi drivers are not impeding on our rights. They are providing an essential service to the public; one which requires fellow road users to share the road when they need to stop and let passengers on and off. I am not condoning the illegal manoeuvres that they are notorious for; my point is that it is pointless getting infuriated with taxis…

                          • Then it is also pointless getting infuriated at criminals. Taxi’s stopping to collect/crop off passengers is an illegal manoeuvre. I completely understand their need to do this. But when you say South African’s should not get upset and accept being inconvenienced, you create a slippery slope which I have shown above. Never give an inch lest you be…

                          • I suppose you make a good point… Perhaps the real issue is the failure of our government to provide adequate infrastructure for the taxis, to enable them to provide their service without inconveniencing other road users…
                            • Still, if you allow yourself to get infuriated when every taxi stops in front of you, you’re sure to have a lot of angry days in your future! I’d prefer not to let it get to me.
                        • @Mjakes you’re trying to draw a comparison between two fundamentally different sentiments. I believe @bopeep is trying to address the manner in which South Africans react to the behaviour of taxi drivers or taxi’s on the road. There is a difference between condoning behaviour and preventing a symptom. What we should be asking @Mjakes in this…

                          • @thirdeye I understand what @bopeep is trying to say. I have the same mindset myself. There’s no use getting angry about many things. Global warming? Its happening so don’t get angry. Crime? Its happening so don’t get angry. Were is the line? What are you allowed to get angry at?

Raising children makes one consider your beliefs from a whole new perspective. Some interesting questions I have received from my 3 year old include:
                        – Why did God make baddies (note: baddies are the bad guys)
                        – Why does God allow us to get sick? Why did he make germs?
                        – What does God look like? Why aren’t there any photos of him?
                        – Is God…Read More

Government corruption, increasing taxes and fuel costs should be added to the list in this group’s description! ANC keeps on demanding more and more money from the public. None of which ends up going into worthy, poverty-reducing initiatives. The number of tax payers in South Africa far exceeds the number of people receiving grants.

Does anyone else love shopping at Old Khaki? The customer service is so welcoming, friendly and helpful. I went shopping with my toddler AND my preschooler in tow and was able to try on clothing while the helpful staff offered free babysitting services. What’s more, I even got helpful outfit advice from the staff who picked out a few items in my…Read More

Something I admire about certain groups of people, particularly the Jewish community, is that they do everything possible to build each other up. If a Jewish family needs a plumber, they will do everything possible to hire a plumber in their community before seeking help elsewhere. They support each other not only in business but in all…Read More
